It belongs to all to us all
Connemara National Park now embraces a Right to Roam, inviting everyone to fully experience the wild beauty of the land. Visitors can hike through forests, wander across open hills, forage for mushrooms and berries, and even camp by remote lakes. By giving people the freedom to immerse themselves in nature, the park fosters a deeper connection to the environment, promotes physical and mental wellbeing, and inspires a lifelong commitment to caring for the natural world.
Roam, Discover, Protect.
1. Know Your Rights
Visitors are welcome to hike, forage, and camp, but always consider the impact on nature and other people. Responsible use ensures everyone can enjoy the park.
The right to roam does not apply to cultivated land (e.g. actively used fields, meadows, and pastures), gardens, farmyards, or house or cabin plots.
2. Respect Your Surroundings
Stay on trails and established campsites in busy areas; spread out in quieter spots. Avoid damaging plants, disturbing wildlife, or harming cultural and historical sites.
3. Respect Others
Be considerate to fellow visitors. Work together to resolve any conflicts over access or shared spaces.
4. Respect Homes and Landowners
Keep a safe distance from houses and cabins. Follow fire regulations, close gates, and avoid damaging fences or planted areas.
5. Leave No Trace
Take all litter home and leave the park as welcoming as you found it.
